NFL Week Eight Preview by Hunter Williams

CheerleadersAccording to Jason Whitlock of the Kansas City Star seven to 10 Chiefs players joined 30 consultants the night before the Steelers game.  Problem was they were not there to discuss the game the following day.  No, these consultants were from a group called Passion Party, the Avon of sex toys.  According to a Passion Party spokeswoman, the players joined the consultants in a simulated sales party.  They bought a few toys and left the party before 10 p.m.  The next day the Chiefs went out and laid down against the Steelers in a 45-7 loss on the road.  One can only wonder if some of the players, if not all had other things on their mind.  Last Wednesday, Chiefs coach Herm Edwards addressed his players about their behavior and lack of focus the night before the Pittsburgh game.  Then this past Sunday, they went out and knocked off the team perceived by many as the best in the AFC, the San Diego Chargers, 30-27.  This week they face a Seahawks team that is reeling from injuries to some of its best players.  QB Matt Hasselbeck will miss the next 3 weeks with a sprained knee ligament.  RB Shaun Alexander is listed as doubtful still nursing a broken foot and is not expected to play.  As long as the Chiefs can stay focused before the game you have to like their chances this week.  Maybe they should listen to teammate Brian Waters who said, “You can have a good time on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. But when we leave here on Saturday, it has to be all football.”

Think you have a lot going, think about this.  Matt Leinart became a father this week when his son was born. Congratulations. It's been a busy few months. You get drafted in the first round. Holdout. Warner gets benched and you're the starter. Gut wrenching loss to the Bears on Monday Night Football but you play fantastic. Your coach melts down in the press conference. Your coach is still melting down in the next game and you play terrible. Son is born. This guy has a lot going on.  Now his Cardinals find themselves road dogs in Green Bay.  My how the “potential” mighty have fallen.  Once thought to be the most likely of the forever cellar dwellers to make some noise this year, it has come to this for the Cardinals.  The only person who probably cares about this game might be Leinart’s mom.  Oh, maybe coach Dennis Green cares as well since he’s about 10 seconds from getting fired.

Terrell Owens said this week he already feels better chemistry with Tony Romo than he ever did with deposed starter Drew Bledsoe.  T.O. went as far as to say the following about his 8 yard T.D. catch from Romo last Monday against the Giants.  "I looked across the formation and he looked at me and he knew what was going on". "It's just two players making a play."  One person who is not that pleased with the change at QB is owner Jerry Jones.  "I have to be a realist," Jones said. "I hadn't thought or hoped that we'd be sitting here after the sixth game making these adjustments. ... I did not want to this year go to an inexperienced quarterback. I wanted to have the benefit of Drew Bledsoe. It hasn't worked out as of today. It just hasn't worked out. That to me is a step back."  Romo steps in and will be tested this week, on the road, against a Carolina team that has won 4 of its last 5.  Good luck, you’ll need it against that defense.
